While in high school, Matt was a member of the Viburnum quizbowl team, helping to lead them to a second place finish in the Class 2 2004 MSHSAA State Championship. He also led that tournament in scoring.
In college, Matt played for the Missouri S&T team from 2005-2011, and was a member of the team that finished in 14th place at the 2008 ICT. He currently lives in Farmington, Missouri.
Matt has directed or co-directed a total of 22 high school tournaments, including all but two editions of the NAQT Missouri Qualifier, as well as six college tournaments. He was also a founding member of the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance and served as the organization's first president.
