Nathaniel Kang (Class of 2022) is a high school player who currently captains St. Margaret's in the SoCal circuit. Primarily a history specialist, he established the SMES program in 2018, as well as the school's history and quizbowl clubs. He has competed in NHBB competition for six years but only began playing general QB as a high school freshman.

Career

In middle school, he was a four-time history bee national semifinalist, consecutively from 2015–2018.

At the 2019 San Diego NHBB tournament, he narrowly beat Amogh Kulkarni by one tossup to win bee finals. Later that season, he was the bee runner-up to Josh Xu of Santa Monica at another NHBB tournament that was hosted by Arcadia. His best individual nats performance came in 2019 when he placed seventh in JV in the US History Bee, marking his first finals appearance in a major nationals event. His streak of five consecutive years winning at least one regional title (2015-2019) in history bee ended in 2020, when he finished 3rd behind Kulkarni and fellow Arcadia player Ryan Sun on C set.

Kang was the champion of the 2018 "Sports & Entertainment Bee" event in the JV division at NHBB high school nats.

He began playing general quizbowl as a freshman. His first experience as a writer was writing for ERIS, a novice-level set head edited by Conor Thompson, in 2020.
