Leo Wolpert is a former student of UVA Law, where he actually attempted to do classwork, much to the detriment of his formerly decent quizbowl skills.
Leo played on the Michigan teams which won the NAQT ICT and ACF Nationals in 2005, and was the top scorer on the Virginia team which won NAQT Mid-Atlantic Sectionals and made the NAQT ICT championship bracket in 2006.
As the individual directly responsible for getting TJ to stop attending ASCN every year and instead focus on NAQT nationals, Leo indirectly set into motion the chain of events that culminated in TJ's historic 2003 to 2005 national championship run.
Poker
Leo's accomplishments in the world of poker continue to grow. In the 2008 World Series, he cashed five times.[1] This included finishing 3rd (after making a deal 3-handed) in the $5k NLHE shootout, and during the Main Event.
In June 2009 Leo defeated John Duthie in the finals to win Event 29, the $10k no-limit hold 'em heads up tournament.[2] Winnings included over $600k, a bracelet, and being named June 17th's "law student of the day" on abovethelaw [3].
