Wordwang!, the cousin of Numberwang!, is a term used to describe vocabulary questions that primarily test a player's ability to play hangman instead of demonstrating knowledge. As will be seen, nearly every vocabulary question that has ever been written is Wordwang!

Reasoning

Unlike other questions, vocabulary questions are rarely uniquely identifying because English words have synonyms; accordingly, there is likely more than one word that fits a definition. If the question writer does not restrict the answer, then the question tests whether players have good ESPN. If the question writer does restrict the answer, however, by restricting the number of syllables or letters, or by giving letters, then the question becomes more of a puzzle to figure out which of several equally-correct words fits the pattern required by the question. This also does not test actual knowledge but rather guessing what word the writer is thinking of now
