Wayzata Central Middle School is a public middle school located in Plymouth, MN and serves grades 6-8. Its quiz bowl program existed on and off throughout the 2010s, with many of its alumni going on to play for Wayzata High School. Currently, it is coached by art teacher MicKayla DeRuiter.
In 2019, Wayzata Central, captained by Sidarth Gazula, claimed first place in the EMERALD, DeLaSalle, and State Tournaments. They finished the season with a strong 33rd place at the MSNCT.
Wayzata Central rose to prominence again in the mid 2020s. During the 2024 season, they took third in the Minnesota Middle School State Tournament and went on to play in the 2024 MSNCT. In 2025, Wayzata Central A took first place in the SAPPHIRE Tournament hosted by St. Louis Park and their A and B teams won second and third place respectively in the Minnesota Middle School State Tournament. Four of Central’s teams will go on to play in the 2025 MSNCT.
