Bio

The former longtime captain of the Rappahannock County Quiz Bowl Team, A.J. joined a team in 2005 that was not active on the circuit and didn't frequently advance past the VHSL Bull Run District tournament. During the 2006-2007 school year, he was instrumental in bringing the team to its first VHSL state tournament. During the 2007-2008 school year, he led the team to a few more circuit events, and was the highest individual scorer at the 2008 NAQT Virginia State Tournament, and finished T-14 at PACE NSC that year. In 2008-2009, he led his team to success at the EQUINE II and CSI III events, before leading them to VHSL District, Regional, and State titles, as well as a third place finish in the Small School Division at the 2009 HSNCT, at which he finished 5th individually.

A.J. retired from quiz bowl for a semester at Alabama, which, in retrospect, was a pretty dumb move. He unretired at the beginning of the Spring 2010 semester, making his first appearance at 2010 ACF Winter. He then played in the NAQT Region 5 SCT, was the highest scorer, and assisted his team in winning the tournament and qualifying for ICT.

As of May 2010, he is the incumbent President of the Alabama Academic Quizbowl Team.

Notes

  • Was the TD for the RAPPoff hosted by Rappahannock County in 2009. Appeared wearing South Pole clothing that he might have otherwise incorporated into his wardrobe.
  • According to the NAQT website, is tied for seventh for a single game PPTH on A-set questions for going 3/15/0 against St. Stephens, and is 17th for tournament PPTH for HSNCT questions.
