(This page is currently a work in progress, but the following is a rough outline of my quiz bowl career thus far.)
Starting his quiz bowl career as a freshman on the Tarkio junior varsity team, after playing six matches he was moved up to the varsity, where he remained for the rest of his freshman year, including winning conference and districts by defeating Mound City and a second-place finish to Thomas Jefferson Independent at the 2006 MSHSAA Class I State Academic Championship. The graduation of the rest of the varsity team left Kevin as the captain of the Tarkio varsity academic bowl team, a position he would hold for the remainder of his high school career. For the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons, Tarkio was moved up to Class 2. In 2007 Tarkio won conference and districts, defeating Mound City and North Platte, and getting third place at the 2007 MSHSAA Class II State Academic Competition after losing to Richland and defeating Barstow. In 2008, Tarkio won conference for the third year, but was defeated at districts by North Platte when a tie and Kevin negged the last tie-breaker question. For the 2008-2009 season, Tarkio returned to Class I and won the conference, district, and sectional championships, and then got 1st place at the 2009 MSHSAA Class I State Academic Competition. Tarkio had applied to compete in the 2009 NAQT HSNCT, and qualified by winning MSHSAA state. Tarkio got 116th out of 132 after qualifying for the finals with a record of 5-5, but was defeated by White Cloud. Kevin got 21st overall individually.
Kevin joined the Truman State University Academic Competition Organization and competed at UIUC's mirror of EFT, ACF Fall at the University of Missouri, ACF Winter at Missouri State University, and NAQT Regionals at Missouri State, doing well individually and getting several individual awards. A team including Kevin got 1st place in Division II at NAQT Regionals, qualifying for NAQT ICT 2010, where three of the team members (one was unable to compete) got 24th out of 32 and Kevin got 33rd out of 123 Division II players.
