Playing History

High School

2005-2006

Kevin attended a few 'practices' in junior high, but in practice these never amounted to anything.

Kevin started attending quiz bowl practices during his freshman year of high school. The first matches played that year were conference tri-meets in February 2006. The first match was Fairfax and Rock Port at Tarkio. Kevin was the only freshman available, and was put on the junior varsity. Both Tarkio teams won all of their matches, but the junior varsity ended up beating the Rock Port varsity by thirty points more than the Tarkio varsity. After another tri-meet against West Nodaway and South Holt, Kevin was moved up to the varsity team before the tri-meet against Mound City and Nodaway-Holt. Kevin would remain on the varsity team for the rest of his high school career. Tarkio won the 2006 Highway 275 Conference championship after defeating Mound City and Kevin was one of the two people from Tarkio on the all-conference team. Mound City defeated Tarkio at the 2006 Savannah invitational tournament, but Tarkio won the 2006 Class 1 District 8 championships at South Holt by defeating Mound City after having won every match. Kevin was one of two people from Tarkio who were all-district individuals. At the 2006 MSHSAA State Championship, Tarkio got 2nd place in Class I to Thomas Jefferson Independent after a misread bonus resulted in a new question being read and Thomas Jefferson answering all of the bonuses on the penultimate question, and Tarkio missing the final question, resulting in Thomas Jefferson Independent's winning the final match of the championship by 15 points.

2006-2007

The graduation of the rest of the varsity team resulted in Kevin being appointed captain of Tarkio's varsity team, a position he would hold for the remainder of his high school career. Tarkio was moved up to Class II for the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons. A team composed entirely of sophomores from Tarkio competed at the 2006 Missouri Western History Bowl, taking 2nd place to Savannah.

The Tarkio varsity won the 275 Conference championship again in 2007. Tarkio's varsity also won the small schools division of the 2007 Savannah invitational tournament. Tarkio won the Class II District 8 Championship after defeating Hamilton in overtime in the semi-finals and North Platte in the final match. At the 2007 MSHSAA State Championship, Tarkio got 3rd place after being defeated by Richland and defeating Barstow.

Tarkio won the small schools division of the 2008 Savannah Invitational tournament after defeating St. Joseph Christian. Tarkio won the 2009 275 Conference Championship after narrowly defeating Rock Port.
