Well, first we'd have to know about the particular format you're playing on. Since I'm assuming you're talking about the Banneker High in Washington, DC, I'm guessing this is about the program "It's Academic," which airs on one of the local TV stations. There are a lot of veterans of that program on this list. I am not one of them, so I wouldn't really know much about it specifically. What I do know is this : the more experience with academic competition, the more prepared a player is, both in HS and in college. If your high school does not participate in the growing college-sponsored tournament circuit, it might be a good idea to begin participating. (I could have sworn I've seen Banneker on rosters for HS tournaments in the area, however.) If your school _does_ participate, however, go to as many tournaments as are feasible. You will pick more knowledge in all subject areas. This last point applies both to team programs like "It's Academic" and individual competitions like the Jeopardy! teen tournament. But if it's a team program, work with your teammates, and have each of you work on learning different categories. I'm sure other people might have different, and possibly more useful or relevant, advice for you.
