James said: "Someone made a mention of this previously, but I thought it would be worthwhile to repeat it. Why not have the winner of the 2000 HCASC championship (believe it will be held before the NCT) represent "Region 16" at the 2000 CBI NCT, instead of drawing a wildcard team?" And cdbarker said: "Actually, this came up at the "Forum" at CBI Nationals, and was met with a flat out _no_ from the Company, with the essential point of the reasoning, as I recall being that CBI and HSASC are two seperate entities, and should not be seen as interchangable." I hope that Craig finds his notes, because I think the full explanation they gave was more interesting, and I'd love to recall the exact quote. HCASC regards its NCT as a national championship. The majority of the presidents of the participating schools attended the last NCT - when has the president of any of mainstream schools attended one of his school's team's tournaments? - and winning the HCASC NCT is prestigious enough to result in an invitation to meet the President and a private tour of the White House for the winning team. It would be unacceptable to *any* of the partners and participants in HCASC to say to the NCT winner, "O.K., you've won your national championship, so we'll reduce you to the same rank as a regional championship team and you can play for a national championship all over again." And that's what making the HCASC NCT winner the wild card would, in effect, be saying. I'll leave it to Craig to provide the exact quote from his notes if he wishes, but that's the gist of the explanation we were given. It might be more palatable for the HCASC NCT winner and the CBCI NCT winner to be brought together for a best two-of-three championship, but someone would have to sell the HCASC partners on the idea.
