Has someone named Ray Hamel ever done collegiate quizbowl in our circuit? He writes trivia questions fro the NY Times and this is his biography. In my one yr of collegiate competition I have never heard of the trnmnts this guy has done. TRIVIA MASTER BIO: Ray Hamel has devoted the past 18 years to the pursuit of trivia, and estimates he has written more than 10,000 questions in this time. This endeavor has led him to hosting weekly trivia shows on radio stations WLCX-AM in La Crosse, Wis., and WTDY-AM in Madison, Wis. He was also the editor and publisher of the magazine Trivia Quotient from 1990 to 1995. Hamel was elected to the Trivia Bowl Hall of Fame in 1984. He won the University of Colorado National Trivia Bowl in 1986 as a member of the championship team "Tinker to Evers to Mike" and later served as a question writer and judge for the same event. His trivia team, Network, has won the annual World's Largest Media Trivia Contest in Stevens Point, Wis., for the past seven years running. He also created (with his favorite te trivia cohort, Dale Jellings) the popular Team Trivia Faceoff competition which ran for five years at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Ray has applied his trivia knowledge to crossword puzzle construction, with more than 350 puzzles to his credit in publications such as Games, The New York Times, Dell Champion Crosswords, and Crossw rd. The trivia/crossword combination also led to his serving as the host of a trivia contest for participants in the 1995 American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in Stamford, Conn. Ray is a special collections librarian at the University of Wisconsin. He lives in Madison with his wife, Barbara, and young son, Ryan.
