So... I posted this to the QB list as well, but I think it warrants posting here, too. Sorry if y'all have no idea what I am talking about :-) Hey all, I've been thinking a lot about Ethics Case # 2, specifically number 3. I suppose it is time to clog your boxes with my thoughts now.... Why is the person wearing scant clothing in # 3 a woman? Perhaps a female form might be what first pops into someone's head when they think of "revealing clothing," but is this right? It bothers me that there was no he/she at all in the wording of the case, and there was no behavior at stake, just the question of dress. Something else that bothered me was the fact that the item even appeared on the Ethics Case list. Would anyone ask such a question about a man dressed "inappropiately?" If they would, or if they would even think of bringing it up to a TD, I certainly haven't heard of it. Not to say it hasn't happened, or wouldn't happen, but in all my experience, I have never seen nor heard anyone say anything to a TD about a man's style of dress. Also in my own experience, I have seen women talked about in a sexual manner because of what they were wearing, even have things said directly to them about what they were wearing. NEVER have I seen anyone approach a man at a tournament and sexually comment on his clothing. This seems a bit skewed in my opinion, especially since I have seen more inappropiate, tasteless, and nauseating dress on men at tournaments than I ever have on women. In fact, I think I have seen, at tournaments, more skin, more socially inacceptable dress, and more offensive personal conduct and hygene of/on the QB men than I have of/on the QB women. I think it might be time to rethink why such as question as Ethics Case 2, # 3 is even acceptable for us to hear without automatically thinking about the lack of sexual equality in the case. As for the answers, I commend those whose responses suggest that the inability of the player to keep their mind on the game has nothing to do with the dress of an opponent, and all to do with the player's mind. As for people who answered otherwise, thinking that perhaps a woman's dress should warrant public scrutiny in a QB world where she is already dreadfully outnumbered by men, shame on you.
