Boston University College Bowl, in association with the bum who wears the Yankees hat in Kenmore Square, is proud to announce Terrier Tussle 9: Smell the Rhett-syn!, our annual timed invitational tournament. This year's festivities will be on Saturday, February 5, 2000 at BU's College of Arts and Sciences (725 Commonwealth Ave. in Boston). This will be the 9th straight February graced by a Tussle, the longest uninterrupted string of any invitational on the quiz circuit. Previous Tussles were sometimes billed as "preparation" for various regional tournaments; while there are plenty of Regionals we'll help you get ready for, we prefer to think of T9 as a well-run timed tournament from the people that brought you Jason Alexander and the Rebecca Rule. This year's tournament director will be BUCB's quiet dictator, Jon Couture. Experienced BU team members (and hangers on) will edit all questions. Moderators will be coming from our team and from you, the fine playing community who will hopefully all be coming. Our rules will be modified-NAQT, with the only modification being National Academic Quiz Tournaments, LLC, is neither a question supplier nor an organizer. We will use 8-minute halves, as well as power tossups. (NOTE: Teams SHOULD NOT put power marks in their questions--we will do that ourselves at the end of the editing process.) I suppose you're wondering what this is going to run you. $100 per team, base fee -$10 each additional team ($90 for second, $80 for third...) -$20 early packet deadline (provided questions meet guidelines) -$10 working buzzer system -$10 competent moderator -$5 visible clock ---- $50 minimum fee per team* *Exceptions to the $50 minimum fee are listed below. However, none of these can be combined with above discounts. We still encourage all teams to bring buzzers, moderators, and clocks though; since if you don't bring them there won't be enough. -50% OFF for each team coming from more than 350 miles away. -50% OFF for each team attending their first Terrier Tussle. -100% OFF for teams who bring one player from Feeding Hills, MA. Pack submissions should go to BU College Bowl (qbowl_at_...) or Jon Couture (joncooch_at_...). Packs must be received on or by Saturday, January 15th to qualify for the early deadline. ALL PACKS MUST be received on or by Tuesday, January 25th. Teams which have not submitted packs by that day will be fined $3/day, and should the situation get dire, will not be guaranteed a spot in the field. See the Question Writing Guidelines for details at <. target=new>http://people.bu.edu/qbowl>. NOTE: Depending on outside help, we will probably be able to excuse new (or infrequent) invitational-circuit schools from writing questions. More details will come later. For everyone's sanity, the question guidelines will not be sent. Questions about the tournament should go to qbowl_at_...; joncooch_at_... can also handle editing queries. Full text of this message, as well as question writing guidelines and calls for outside submissions, will be posted on < target=new>http://people.bu.edu/qbowl> within the next few days. Here at BU, we pride ourselves on running on time, quality events. I urge all of you to come see how beautiful Boston can be in February, and I hope to see everyone at T9.
