I don't think access is the real reason behind it. A lot of it is
that Charlie does a great job and fills a need with the number of
competitions that he hosts. South Florida I cannot really explain.
I just think that the really active teams with good guidance tend to
run tournaments. It's not necessarily related to geography, but to
the team.
Washington DC by the way has George Washington in its city boundaries
and University of Maryland just outside. There are also other teams
around the area, but of course, it is convenient to fly in there
too. Boston has its usual group of competitions that they run. New
York for whatever reason doesn't have a lot of teams outside of just
NYU and Yeshiva, though I guess if you think Princeton counts as part
of NYC...
