On October 5th, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign hosted our Early Bird 2002 high school tournament. We played a round-robin followed by some modified swiss-paired playoffs, and at the end of the day crowned Detroit Catholic Central as the winner, and recipient of the giant chicken-headed trophy. Andy Matthews of Chicago Loyola was the tournament's high scorer. Results were as follows, where "Record" is the team's aggregate RR and playoff records, and with ties broken by head-to-head results. Team Record ------ ------ 1. Detroit CC 10-0 2. Benton, Ak. 8-2 3. Chicago Loyola 7-3 4. Fairfield Comm 5-5 5. Granite City 4-6 6. Springfield A 4-6 7. Springfield B 1-9 8. Complete (well-formatted) results are available here: http://www.uiuc.edu/ro/abt/results/index.html Our thanks to all the teams who participated, to superhuman tournament director Brent Henderson, and to everyone else who helped out. We hope to see everyone at next year's edition, and all the Illinois teams at the NAQT State Championship in the spring. J.p. Lien UIUC ABT President
