Personally I think the idea of an ICT in L.A. is cool. Though not to be compared with left coast teams, Florida schools have to do a fair amount of traveling as well. It's a 7-hour drive from South Florida just to leave the state. Of course we've been helped by the presence of Airtran (which unfortunately does not fly to California). A note on airfares: Often, your best fares are not available on Travelocity and Expedia or through a travel agent (and web site fares are usually always the same--they all use the SABRE system--however, sometimes an individual website has negotiated a couple lower fares exclusive to that website), most airlines have special fares available only on their own website i.e. airtran.com, southwest.com, northwest.com etc.- -some of those fares are now available through regular internet bookings, but most are still only available through the airline's site only. However, I can't speak for other schools, but at FSU to get school funding in advance we have to go through the school travel agency which can't access the really good fares. Of course what you can do is book them yourselves, pay for them and then get reimbursed. On the fundraising note: FSU has relatively substantial funding (though we are required to spend a fair amount of that on CBI) but fundraisers are actually a negative for us. Any fundraiser we hold (including hosting a tournament) results in our school funding being reduced by the amount we raise--in other words, we would have to make up our entire funding amount before we could raise any "extra" money. So we can't just come up with extra funds when tournament costs are higher in a given year than previous years. I would think that there are other schools with similar funding issues. just my 2 cents, not speaking for FSU QB, nathan freeburg
