SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10 Come one, come all to the TRASH (Testing Recall About Strange Happenings) Deep South Regional 2002 At Emory University's Dobbs University Center TRASH is a national trivia competition about subjects which can't really be considered academic, ranging from sports to movies to celebrities to cartoons. Official TRASH competitions, like "Trash" competitions anywhere, are a fun getaway and a place to test your pop culture knowledge against other people. We have two pieces of really great news to announce: 1. If you want to attend, you don't have to write any questions. TRASH's crack team of writers will do that for you, so all you have to do is show up and play. 2. Teams consisting of "virgin" trash players, i.e. teams which have never before played in a pop culture tournament, can attend for a miniscule fee of $20. Other fees are as follows: $70 for the first team from each school $60 for the second team from each school $50 for the third and further teams from each school Available Discounts: $10 for each working buzzer system (please bring these even if you don't need the discount...we can use 'em) $10 for an experienced reader or other game official $10 for a trip of over 100 miles to reach Atlanta. The minimum fee is $40 per team, except for teams in their first pop- culture event. FORMAT: Standard 20-tossup-and-their-bonus ACF format. According to TRASH head man James Dinan: TRASH Regional tournaments, like all TRASH events, are UNTIMED. All bonuses are maximum 30 points, with the exception of the occassional 40-30-20-10-1 bonus sprinkled throughout the packets. On a tossup, once a player buzzes, they get five seconds after the buzz to answer (ACF rules - the only way TRASH is like its polar opposite :P ). Neg-5's are in play if the player buzzes in while the question is being read and gets it wrong. If a player buzzes in after a question is read and gets it wrong, there is no penalty. On a bonus, a team gets five seconds for discussion per bonus part unless noted (ex - if there is a "put these things in order" bonus, a team would get 15 seconds). We will let you know if such questions appear in the packets. Contact Steve Bahnaman sbahnam_at_learnlink.emory.edu (sbahnam at learnlink dot emory dot edu) to reserve a space or to ask any questions. The tournament director for now is Steve Bahnaman, though on tourney day he will likely be replaced by James Quintong or one of the other Atlanta TRASH folks.
