I don't speak for GW, nor can I speak for everyone involved in this discussion. But I don't necessarily believe that the primary motivator for everyone who raised concerns about this issue is self-interest. Heck, I think this if anything _increases_ the odds GW will send a team to ICT, since GW should have the funds to go and at least a few teams likely to finish ahead in the ICT pecking order will at least consider taking a pass. Here's what I'm concerned about. Rather than 60-68 teams, I wonder if the total going to ICT won't be more like half that, with as many as half of those from the Mountain or Pacific time zones. I wonder about whether the field quality will be up to ICT's usual standards, not because of the absence of quality teams out West but because there is highly likely to be many a notable absence. Now for previous ICTs, you could fill out the field with borderline teams from the area. That's just going to be much harder to do in a region with many fewer teams. I wonder how a smaller field size would adversely affect NAQT's bottom line. (I know that's not my job, but that's never stopped me before.) I wonder about staffing issues - I'm aware that Caltech and UCLA have hosted tournaments before, and I'm sure they're up to handling logistics, but I do wonder if the Southern California moderator/official pool can handle something the size of even a downsized ICT since the location will make it very hard to import much help on that score. I mean if they are going to this far west now, LA is as good a place as any to start. It's not personal, I'm not discussing entitlement, but I do wonder if this is such a good idea.
