13 teams competed today in TRASH Regionals Midwest here at UIUC. Missouri went 9-1, and was proclaimed the champion. Second place went to Northwestern A (6-3), and third to UIUC (6-3). A note about how the ordering was determined is below. Matt from Iowa B led the tournament in scoring, followed by Mark from Mizzou, Tyler (Northwestern A), Erik (Iowa A), and Mica (Indiana). The five individual prizes were highlighted by a copy of the Kelly Clarkson single that I found in the 99c bin at Record Service. Thanks to everyone who came out, to TRASH for a great set of questions, and, once again, to my faithful staff who gave up yet another day of their weekend. Stats will be available on our web page soon. I'll be posting here again when that happens. There were three-way circles of death in both prelim brackets, causing a great deal of confusion as to how to award second through seventh place. The two brackets had an uneven number of teams (owing to the failure of that punk, Andy Wang, to show up), thus making the question even more difficult. Since the top 4 teams from both brackets made it into the top flight of the playoffs, this wasn't a problem until the final standings. I chose to resolve the dispute NFL-style, by forming a conference of the 6 teams with 6-3 or 6-4 records. This conference contained two CODs, 3 3-2 teams, and 3 2-3 teams. I then resolved these by using point differential. The order of the 2-7th place teams was: NW A, UIUC, Wash U, Indiana, Iowa B, Iowa A. All of these teams were extremely strong, and no way of ranking them seems adequate, but this way struck me as fairest. J.p.
