Regarding HS players and coaches that are willing to travel to Illinois, I am aware of many teams that would want to attend; I have my own database of teams that have travelled to Cleveland or Bowling Green State University. The problem I have is reciprocating: I don't know that many teams from Illinois interested in travelling out to Michigan or Ohio to compete. I'm sure the rule against travel during the scholastic bowl season has something to do with it, but still, I find that teams that are good will travel and do fairly well. Heck, Brookwood GA went all the way up to Boston University and just plain smashed the competition up there. The problem I have in trying to attract teams is the usual: 1) it's expensive for a team to travel even a couple of hours to compete, and 2) teams would rather play against their own hometown teams than play against teams outside their area. One of my own goals is to run open competitions which good quality fields, but some teams don't want to come because they feel they aren't "good enough." Hello... cyclical argument??? Of course, I've been fortunate to have only one Illinois HS team come to Cleveland; I'm hoping that one day more teams will do the same. --- etc.
