This is to confirm that ACF Southeast Regionals will be hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Academic Trivia Association. ACF Southeast Regionals will be a one-day tournament on Sat., Feb 15, 2003. We'll have a trash tournament as well (ACF Detox, details to follow) on Sun., Feb. 16, but of course you need not attend both. Registration begins on Sat. 2/15 at 9 AM EST in Grote 129 on the UTC campus (see below for directions.) Announcements are at 9:45; play begins at 10 AM. Much of what's below repeats what has already been stated in ACF's announcement; apologies for the redundancy. ELIGIBILITY: ACF Regionals will be an untimed academic tournament open to collegiate teams only. Teams may contain up to four players, all from the same school; each member of the team must take at least one class for credit during the school year. Full eligibility standards are listed on the ACF webpage at: http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~paik/acf/eligibility.html FEES: Base fee: $95 per team Minimum fee after discounts: $55 (The $55 minimum fee also automatically applies to any team that has not played in ACF regionals in the last two years) As Subash has already posted, for schools that have played in ACF Regionals within the past 2 years, all A teams are required to submit packets. Additional teams from the same school are not required to submit packets, but may do so. *IMPORTANT NOTE: Each team's packet must remain blind to other teams from the same school.* Detailed packet guidelines may be found at http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~paik/acf/regionals.html. Please send all packets to editor-in-chief Subash Maddipoti at either subash at uchicago dot edu or suby10 at yahoo dot com. Packets may be submitted as a MS Word, RTF, or text attachment, in that order of preference. The deadline for discounts has passed, but there's still time to get packets in without penalty: Packet in by midnight CST Wednesday, January 22 - no penalty Packet in by midnight CST Wednesday, January 29 - $15 penalty Packet in by midnight CST Wednesday, February 5 - $30 penalty (If you need a 1-2 day extension, Subash will grant one provided you ask BEFORE the deadline. NO PACKETS WILL BE ACCEPTED after February 5, unless by prior arrangement with Subash at least a week in advance.) Equipment discounts: -$5 per buzzer set, 1 discount per team. (Bring more buzzers, and if it turns out we're running short, we will grant additional discounts to the schools that brought extras.) Moderator discounts: -$10 per competent official Multiple team discounts: -$5 for a second team, and -$15 for each team after that LODGINGS: We weren't able to get our usual deal at the Clarion. More accurately, they'd give us the discount rate, but they're booked solid. I'm checking around for alternatives; e-mail me if you need more info on this. DIRECTIONS TO UTC: * From Atlanta and points south -- take I-75 to Chattanooga, then I-24 west towards downtown, then follow the freeway splitoff for U.S. 27 North, downtown Chattanooga. From 27 North take the 4th Street exit, within sight of the Tennessee Aquarium. Go right on 4th St. (you have no choice) and follow it for ca. 1 mile. When you reach the UTC Arena, turn right on Mabel St. Mabel St. goes around a curve and becomes E. 5th St. Shortly thereafter, across from a cemetery, you'll reach Holt Hall. Just past Holt Hall turn right to enter the nearest parking lot. Grote is the other building adjoining the same parking lot. * From Knoxville and points north -- take I-75 to Chattanooga, then I-24 West; directions from there same as above. * From Nashville and points west/north: Take I-24 east to Chattanooga. As you round Moccasin Bend (freeway goes alongside river) watch for two exit lanes on the right; take the less rightward of the two, which will have signs above it for U.S. 27 N. Rest of directions are the same as above. * From Birmingham and points southwest: Take I-59 to the outskirts of Chattanooga, where it dead-ends into I-24.
