NAQT does not consider answering questions that are asked to be "running up the score." If a tossup is asked, a team that knows the answer should provide it. If they are asked a bonus, they should answer it. NAQT considers "running up the score" to be intentionally trying to hear more questions when possessed of a comfortable lead by interrupting bonuses, encouraging the moderator to read more quickly, and so forth. NAQT does not officially object to this behavior--different teams have different styles of play and it it well within our rules--but we don't consider it to be indicative of overall team quality so we have chosen a formula that makes it irrelevant as much as possible. -- R.
