The Arkansas Quiz Bowl Team at the University of Arkansas is proud to 
announce the 2003 NAQT Arkansas High School Qualifier Tournament, to 
be held in sunny Fayetteville on Saturday, April 12, 2003.  
Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., with a general rules meeting at 
8:45 a.m. and matches starting at 9:00 a.m.  The tournament will be 
of a pooled round-robin format; the playoff structure will be based 
on the number of teams present.  Each team is guaranteed no less than 
eight games, and the tournament is scheduled to end no later than 
6:00 p.m., with a lunch break around noon.

The tournament will follow the rules outlined at 
www.naqt.com/rules.html, an exception being that rounds will be 
untimed and will consist of twenty tossups and up to twenty bonuses.  
The tournament will be run as an official NAQT tournament, with the 
top 15% of finishers qualifying for the 2003 NAQT High School 
National Championship Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The base entry fee is $75 per team, with discounts as follows:
2nd team from the same school: -$10
3rd and subsequent teams from the same school:  -$20
Distance discount:  -$5 per hour of estimated travel time by 
randmcnally.com
Functional buzzer systems:  -$5 per set (maximum 2)
Experienced game officials (moderators, scorekeepers):  -$5 per 
official (maximum 2)
Teams that did not attend the 2002 NAQT Arkansas High School 
Qualifier:  -$10

The minimum fee is $20 per team.  Each attending school will also 
receive a copy of the questions from the entire tournament (15 
rounds) at no additional charge.

Interested schools can register by e-mailing tournament director 
Joshua Hill at jdh22_at_... with contact name, school, and number 
of teams attending.  Upon registering, teams will receive 
confirmation, as well as a detailed schedule of activities and 
directions to Fayetteville and to the hosting facility, probably 
either Kimpel Hall or the Walton College of Business building.  
Registrations will be taken until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 
2003.
