You may remember me from my previous post enquiring about certain legal aspects of quizbowl. Those messages were in my capacity as the legal representation of Ann B. Davis, whose likeness has been appropriated illegally and for profit in several tournaments at the University of Michigan. We are of the of the opinion that the University of Michigan is liable for most of these damages, in excess of $25,000, for the tournament fees, the value of prizes awarded, and question sales. We are also seeking damages for endorsements lost because the name of the tournament led several potential employers to believe my client was deceased. We are seeking witnesses for deposition and for trial to testify about the details of these tournaments. We are not currently including as defendants participants and question writers for these tournaments, though that has not been ruled out; and will depend partly on the response to this message.
