Bainbridge 3. Bevill State Individual Scoring (Overall) 1. Charles Meigs, UCLA 2. Martin Devecka, Chicago 3. Grayson Holmes, North Carolina 4. Jerry Vinokurov, UC-Berkeley 5-6. Who the hell knows 7. Jim Baker, Valencia A (Community College Leading Scorer) In preliminary single round-robin play, UCLA, Michigan, Valencia A, and Chicago (possibly Brandeis) won their brackets, while UC- Berkeley, Brandeis, Stanford, (in a close tiebreaker over Truman State) and Caltech (winner of a five-team tie for second in their bracket) all advanced to the Wooden Division. In the playoff bracket, Berkeley, Michigan, and Valencia ended up in a three way tie at 5-2 with Berkeley having won against both teams. The three-way tie was resolved in a triangle game, with Berkeley and Valencia winning the right to play each other in the championship. Berkeley won the championship, holding off a second-half charge by Valencia A to win comfortably 350-250. Berkeley's team consisted of Jerry Vinokurov, Brendan Shapiro, and Devang Parekh, all of who finished in the top 20 individually, and Abhishek Roy, whose ignominious national championship debut resulted in one scoreless game. Congratulations to Berkeley and also to Valencia A, who won the Community College Championship by general acknowledgement that a championship game would be unnecessary.
