This is a formal pre-annoucement for the Great British Trash Tournament, scheduled to take place on either Saturday 22 or 29 November 2003 in Oxford, UK. Basically, we're throwing down the gauntlet to the country that invented trash to send the best trash players you can find to see how much they know about British popular culture. We can guarantee there will even be questions about cricket. This tournament will not be packet submission, as BuzzerQuiz (the British quiz organising people) are currently enjoying writing the most subversive, filthiest trash questions we can lay our hands on. We're currently aiming at 10 rounds of 20 starters untimed. Of course, teams don't need to have any academic affiliation whatsoever. We are flexible on the date, as with enough advance warning we can get the venue when we want it. At the moment, if any teams are interested, please drop me a line with any preferences or known scheduling clashes (I've tried to keep up with the recent spate of announcements) so we can firm up a date in the next month or two. If there is sufficient interest in doing so from both sides of the pond, we will also run the following day a short-ish packet submission academic tournament (also open to all teams), the first that will ever have been run in the UK (the teams here are lazy sods, they expect us to do all their questions for them *grumble*). Oh, and Oxford's pretty in autumn (yes, autumn, not "fall" :) ). Rob, for BuzzerQuiz (rob at buzzerquiz.com) http://www.buzzerquiz.com/ -- Rob Linham: E-mail: rob_linham_at_...
