<I'd be interested to hear from other high school teams about practicing/studying, etc.> My team (I'm the assistant coach at Burlington HS in Vermont) practices four times per week after school, usually for between 45 minutes and an hour. Our players do participate in lots of other things (for example Tuesdays we have JV-only practice because our varsity players all have math team practice) so our practices are never mandatory per se but we expect the players to be there as much as possible. We play lots of inter-squad scrimmages and bring in teachers' teams every now and again for the psychological boast. In general we're just lucky to have a great group of kids who really enjoy what they're doing (and who are not bad at it either at least when considering we're from VERMONT!). As for lunch practices, we tried it briefly two years ago but it didn't work because the school's fragmented lunch schedule meant we could never get more than four or five kids together at one time. On the other hand, the coaches around here who do practice at lunch seem to think highly of it. As for the NAC vs. NSC vs. ASCN thing; is there anybody out there who has attended all three who would like to comment? I ask because our head coach will be deciding which of the three we will attend (if any) probably in the next week or so. -Kevin Commo Burlington (VT) Scholars' Bowl http://members.aol.com/bhsschbowl/index.htm
