I know of three computer buzzer systems that already exist.  The 
Quizminder is an older one set up to run with a Commodore 64.  Two 
newer ones are the Inquisitor which plugs into a computer's printer 
port and the Computer Aided Buzzer from Champions Quiz Bowl 
Preparation that uses a computer's USB port.
