The first biennial Fetes Galantes: Reloaded and Defenestrated, an ACF- style, master's level open tournament, will be held this fall, with the tentative date being either October 11 or 18. All questions will be written by me, 15 rounds worth. What will NOT be included: tossups on SARS, The Birth Project, the Prepared Piano, or that no-name architect who designed the WTC; 8- line tossups; powers; QB-insider argot. What will be included: fun, diverse questions generally following an ACF distribution with a sprinkling of trash and less American history and literature questions than what the official distribution calls for (though IMHO people have been unofficially moving away from that bias in the distribution for some time). Words on difficulty: Bonuses will be challenging–think ACF Nats or Chicago Open difficulty. However, even semi-novice teams should be able to get 5-10 points on virtually every bonus. Likewise, 30's will be quite rare, even for the top teams (although not impossible). As for tossups, most of the answers should be known to even novice teams but there will be some more difficult (but not extremely obscure) tossups to keep it interesting. There will be tossups on the level of Abraham Lincoln-difficulty, many around Field of the Cloth of Gold-difficulty and a few at Wolfgang von Eschenbach difficulty. However, as much as I would love to write a tossup on say, Denise Bellon (who was a wonderful and vital photographer), I'll contain myself. There will be no obscurata. So, chalk it up and plan on playing this fall–there's nothing at all like it until the spring so why not try something hard-core early in the playing year? Oh, part deux, I'm looking for a host and mirrors–I know of possibles but nothing definite so here's your chance to make some money for your team without doing any more work than reserving rooms and doing some staffing. Email me at "the fool 75 at yahoo dot com"–no spaces. thanks, nathan
