Hello all, I hope everyone is having a good summer. I'm pleased to announce that the planned Science Monstrosity (SM) will take place as originally planned on the weekend of July 26-27. All of the necessary information about the tournament was given in post 12561, but I will repeat some of it here. Teams: 1 or 2 people Cost: $10/player Question distribution: Every team of one or two will be required to submit 20/20 as follows: 4/4 Physics 4/4 Biology 4/4 Chemistry 3/3 Math/Computer Science and Engineering 3/3 Earth Science/Astronomy 2/2 Your choice Questions are due to me no later than July 19. If you wait until after that to submit your packet, I will penalize you $5/person for each day the packet is late. Nothing will be accepted after Thursday, July 24. Packet submission is absolutely required to play at Berkeley unless I state otherwise. Mirrors are subject to slightly different rules, as outlined below. If you can not write a packet and still want to play, contact me and we can work something out. Mirrors: Mirrors are welcome! The more people we get playing this, the better. If you are interested in mirroring, please contact me. Tentatively, I'm going to say right now that each mirror is required to produce at least 2 packets, more if it's a large mirror or if you have a lot of science players hanging around. In return, you will get everything that I collect on this end. Please keep multiple packets from the same mirror blind to players at that mirror. Difficulty: If possible, the question should be written in such a way that someone who has finished the standard lower division classes in the subject should be able to get the question on the giveaway, or at least recognize the answer. In all cases, questions should be on things that people would normally be expected to cover in a standard undergraduate curriculum in the subject. Editing: Centralized editing will be done by myself. I will also be the physics/math/engineering editor for the tournament. It would be very good to have editors for biology, chemistry, computer science, and earth science/astronomy. If you are interested in editing any one of these disciplines, please contact me. Final note: We had a good turnout last year for Science Masters at Berkeley. It would be great if we got even more people this year. However, in the interests of avoiding false expectations and confusion, please make sure you are ready and willing to write a packet before you declare your intentions to play. Contact info: If you have any questions, want to send me a packet, or would like to mirror SM, contact me at jerry_v at uclink dot berkeley dot edu. Regards, Jerry
