The Maryland Academic Quiz Team is pleased to remind you about a duo of summer tournaments that will take place Saturday, July 26th in College Park. This is (possibly) the same weekend as Capital Punishment 5, so you can spend a whole weekend in the D.C. metro area engorging on quiz bowl goodness. Maryland Masters will be a mirror of the Chicago Open that will take place in the morning and afternoon. It will be open to all humans who have showered within 12 hours of the start of the tournament. No packet submission will be required. The base fee is $100 per team, with a $10 discount for each buzzer system you bring. If you are looking for some people to play with, let me know and I will hook you all up. I am setting a cap of 14 teams and a lower limit of 6 teams. The Gaius Cornelius Hobnobus Memorial Singles Tournament will be a mirror of the singles tournament Subash is writing (with science assistance from Seth Teitler) that will take place in the evening following a dinner break. The fee will be $10 per person. If you bring a buzzer system, you play for free. There will be a cap of 49 players and a lower limit of 24 players. <THUS FAR>I have six teams and three free agents for Maryland Masters. The teams: Princeton Delaware Rutgers Team Jordan Florida State Virginia Commonwealth If you wish to sign up as a free agent, do so immediately. I will be sending the next free agent email Wednesday. I have between 10 and 15 players for Hobnobus Singles. I have 4-5 buzzers, including the MAQT ones. We should be fine, but you can never have too many buzzers.</THUS FAR> I am looking for moderators for both events. If you are not an MAQT member, I will pay you $20 to moderate Maryland Masters and $10 to moderate Hobnobus Singles. <THUS FAR>I have two moderators. This is enough for a skeleton crew (if I moderate) but I would definitely prefer more.</THUS FAR> Since this a summer tournament with mixed teams, I am open to ideas for prizes for individual players on the top teams at Maryland Masters and the top players at Hobnobus Singles. I will be using the Borda method to compile votes. Place the following in order of preference: individual trophies/medals/ribbons, books, other (posters, playing cards, trinkets, etc.; indicate on your "ballot"). If there is a Voter's Paradox, I reserve the right to choose the category of prizes. <THUS FAR>Books have been the favorite choice of prize so far. If you want trophies, start stuffing the ballot box.</THUS FAR> To register for either tournament or if you want to moderate, email me (dgreens at wam.umd.edu) with the name of the tournament in the subject line. Please let me know by Saturday, July 19th whether you are coming. We look forward to seeing you July 26th! Daniel Greenstein Tournament Director, Maryland Masters and Hobnobus Singles MAQT President
