The details you've all been waiting for about the MidSouth ACF Fall Invitational are here! Though the tourney is being run by the UTK Quiz Bowl team, we'll actually be holding it at Pellissippi State (PSTCC), a community college here in Knoxville, as UT will be having its homecoming football game that day. (107,000 people trying to park on a campus with about 20,000 parking places isn't a pretty sight.) Who's in charge here: The tournament director is Carol Guthrie. In all rules questions, protests, or random fights in the hallways, her word is final. Assistance provided by me (Scotti Whitmire), Markus Iturriaga (who you won't actually see, as he'll be on an airplane during the event), team officers Jamie Coble and Conti Holifield, and the rest of UTK's team. If you're interested in coming to officiate, please let me know... good readers always make life easier. When and where: Registration will begin at 9, with announcements at 9:45ish and play beginning at 10. We'll be on the third floor of the McWherter building at PSTCC -- we have rooms 301, 302, 303, 307, 308, 322, 328, 330, 337, and 338 reserved, and we'll use one of those, to be determined when we get there, as tourney HQ. A map of the PSTCC main campus is available at http://www.pstcc.edu/maps/map-pellissippi-parking.gif -- you're free to park in any of the areas marked O for Open Parking. How to get there: Take I-40 to Knoxville. Take the State Hwy. 162/Oak Ridge exit, which is exit 376 if you're driving east and exit 376A if you're driving west. Follow the signs to go north towards Oak Ridge on Hwy 162 (aka Pellissippi Parkway), and go 3.5 miles to the Hardin Valley Road exit. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto Hardin Valley Road. Turn right at the first road after the underpass (Solway Road). Turn left into the Pellissippi State entrance. Lodging: Since the football fans will be taking up a large portion of the Knoxville-area hotel rooms, we recommend reserving a room in Oak Ridge if you haven't already got rooms booked. Oak Ridge is just a few miles down Pellissippi Pkwy from PSTCC -- if you get back onto the Pkwy and continue north, you'll go directly there. Hotel information is available at http://oakridgevisitor.com/lodging.html , including addresses for easy MapQuesting. If you're unable to find a room in Oak Ridge for some reason, most major chains have a location in the Cedar Bluff area of Knoxville and some might still have rooms available as well. Food: You'll see the only food in the immediate vicinity of the PSTCC campus when you exit -- Wendy's, KFC, and Taco Bell. There's also a Burger King one exit back towards Knoxville (Lovell Road). These are probably your best options for lunch. If you want dinner recommendations/directions, just ask one of us. Field: As of now, the following teams have told me they're coming. If you're not on this list and you're planning to be there, PLEASE let me know!! UT Chattanooga (1 or 2 teams) Athens State (1) Indiana (1) Kentucky (2 or 3) South Carolina (1) Not all of these teams have told me their division status yet, but we will be recognizing Div I and II champions, so remember to tell us when you register which you are. Fees: $100 base fee $80 for each additional team -$10 for a working buzzer system Packets received by: Sept. 5: -$25 Sept. 19: -$10 Sept. 26: no penalty Oct. 10: +$15 Oct. 17: +$30 (Packets, of course, are to be sent to Kelly McKenzie (ksmcke0 _at_ hotmail.com). Any questions about exceptions to the packet discounts/penalties or waivers of the packet requirements should be addressed to him.) If you have any questions about any of this, please contact me at silverleaf22 _at_ yahoo.com.
