Novice Invitational update

There is still time to sign up for the fourth annual NOVICE 
INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 in the Phyllis P. 
Marshall Center on the campus of the University of South Florida.  
Over the past four years, this event has grown to more than 20 teams 
from all over the state and the South.  It is a great way to 
introduce your newer players to quiz bowl competition.

My list of registered teams (21 so far) is below. If you have not 
signed up yet, please do so quickly, as the tournament field will be 
capped at 24 teams for logistical reasons.

To register, email jeremycec_at_msn.com before Nov. 15, and let me 
know the number of teams, buzzers, and readers you will be 
bringing.  We will provide official receipts at the tournament.  
FYI, the "Quiz Bowl Team at USF" is a non-profit organization, but 
it is not chartered as a 501(c)3 organization.  Our Federal Tax ID 
number is 593627376.

Eligibility: The tournament field is open to teams composed of 
players in their first or second year of collegiate quiz bowl 
competition, all of whom attend the same school (different campuses 
OK).

Format: Each match will use NAQT™ questions in two timed halves.
The 
tournament will consist of some form of round robin followed by a 
playoff to decide the tournament champion.

Schedule: Team sign-in is from 8-9 a.m. in Room 101 of the Marshall

Lunch: We will provide pizza and soft drinks for lunch at the 
tournament so that everyone does not have to go out to eat.  We will 
leave out a box for donations.

Fees:
• Base Registration Fee: $100
• Equipment Discount: -$10 per working buzzer that we use
• Moderator Discount: -$10 per experienced moderator or
tournament 
official (statkeeper/scorekeeper)
• Extra teams:
 Second team discount - $10
 Third team discount - $20
 Fourth team discount - $30
 Fifth team discount - $40
• Out of state: -$20
• Minimum fee (with all discounts): $50 per team

• Special deal: first-time, out-of-state teams: $60 flat rate
