Now that I have some free time to worry about all four tournaments we're hosting in seven weeks, I thought I would remind you about the upcoming UGA Tournament by the Sea to held on Jekyll Island on March 6, 2004. It will be a Trash tournament, with packets being submitted by the teams. We are currently in talks with Iowa, as they are interested in mirroring a Trash tournament, and we hope to pick up 6 or 8 extra packets for playoffs and the like. As for teams, we have only 11 slots due to the few rooms we have, and at last check, 5 were taken (UGA, ABAC, S Georgia, Armstrong Atlantic, and a South Carolina team), so that leaves only 6 slots left open. It has been a while, so if you're on this list and said you'd come, but have been left off, please let me know. The following are the fees and discounts for the tournament: Base Fee: $110 Second Team: +$60 (limit two per school, due to the few rooms we have, we're limiting the field to 11 teams) Packet in before January 31, 2004: -$15 Packet in b/w February 1 and February 8: -$10 Packet in b/w February 9 and February 15: -$5 Packet in b/w February 16 and February 21: No Discount Packet in b/w February 22 and February 29: +$15 No packet will be accepted after 12:00:00 March 1 unless prior arrangements have been made. All deadlines are as of 11:59:59pm. For packet guidelines, we will be asking for only 22 TUs and Boni. Also, we would be adhereing to the packet content guidelines used by Charlie at UTC, seeing how most of you on this list are used to them. The parameters in parenthesis (try saying THAT three times fast) are for both TUs and boni. 2 - 4 Movies (half pre-1960, half post 1960) 2 - 4 TV (half pre 1975, half post 1975) 2 - 4 Sports (one sport per question) 2 - 4 Music (one music style per question) 2 - 3 Trashy "literature" (no more than 1 Sci-Fi related) 2 - 3 Trashy current events No more than 2 each: Computer games & other computer stuff Comics Junk food Potent potables Gadgets Other trashy merchandise (e.g., the Metamucil tossup) Board games, children's games, etc. This tournament will also have some unique features. Other than the typical "lame and claim" we will be introducing the "bonus steal." More on that as we get closer to the tournament. As mentioned, this really is a tournament BY the sea, as it is being held in the Jekyll Island Convention Center, just yards off the Atlantic Ocean. The official hotel for the tournament is the Days Inn Jekyll Island, located a couple of hundred yards from the Convention Center. I believe we have 20 rooms reserved for the tournament. The rate for the ocean front rooms I believe is 82 a night plus tax, which, given the time and the location, is VERY good. If you have any questions about this tournament, please feel free to contact me at UGAQuizdogs at bellsouth dot net. All I need right now is a "I'm interested," unless of course you'd like to send you packet in already. Thanks, Robin UGA CBAT
