After the first 90% of invitations are determined solely by reference to SCT results as above, we then make additional invitations in the following order of priority: 1. Honoring any special commitments made regarding invitations to winners of special events or teams from outside the U.S. and Canada, if any. 2. Overall champions at a CCT who were unable to attend an SCT because none were held within 450 miles of their school. 3. Overall champions at a CCT who have not already been invited, whether or not they attended an SCT. 4. Overall 2nd-place teams at a CCT who were unable to attend an SCT because none were held within 450 miles of their school. 5. Overall 2nd-place teams at a CCT who have not already been invited, whether or not they attended an SCT. (Invitations due to the criteria above will be issued automatically so long as places in the field remain unfilled. Invitations due to criteria #6 below, which will be applied only to a team that attended neither an SCT nor a CCT due to our having failed to locate either tournament within 450 miles of them, will be issued only if such a team takes the step of informing us of their interest in attending the ICT.) 6. Winners of any intercollegiate academic quiz tournament held in the current competition year that was open either to any enrolled student or to any enrolled undergraduate student, and that involved at least nine teams from at least five different schools. (After running through these criteria, we then return to the SCT performance rankings.) Three teams from the UK have had spots reserved for them under criteria #1 above. No team qualifies under criteria #2. Under criteria #3 two teams qualify, Georgia Tech and Texas A&M. Georgia Tech got the first nod, for being a CCT champion in a field with 9 Division I teams, while Texas A&M's CCT championship was in smaller field. Therefore Georgia Tech got the last of the initial invitations on that basis, and Texas A&M is first on the waitlist. After that, no teams qualify under criteria #4. Under #5, four teams qualify as teams that took (or tied for) 2nd place at a fall CCT, and these are presently the teams that are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th on the waitlist. In order, based on the size of the Div. I fields at those CCTs, those teams are Johns Hopkins, Southern Cal, Florida State, and Oklahoma B. (The Oklahoma team taking 2nd at the CCT having no player overlapping with the Oklahoma team that already qualified through the SCT; otherwise they would not be able to have a second team considered via this route.) Positions 6 and south on the waitlist (not publicly announced) then return to the order of our rankings of SCT performance. Those teams will be informed of their position as (if) we do in fact get that deep into the waitlist due to teams declining their invitations.
