And what happens next could be very interesting in game show law. See http://www.tvgameshows.net lead story for a brief treatment. J! like most game shows has a one year appearance rule. If I understand the situation correctly, and if memory serves me right, Kim qualified for WWTBAM and appeared after taping J! but before the appearance for J! aired. Network (as opposed to syndicated) WWTBAM had no rule diqualifying one for non-prime-time game show appearances, but J! has a rule that you can not appear on a game a year prior to your appearance in order to win money. The language in the J! contract is imprecise as to whether that year starts with taping or with airdate, or at least it was when I was on in 1992. He appears to be clearly eligible for the WWTBAM money. But J! may refuse to allow his his prize winnings, and hasn't announced their decision yet. With his win of $500K on WWTBAM, he clearly traded up. But if he gets to keep his J! prizes, it will represent a continuing (and IMO welcome) erosion of some regulations that are by far draconian and outdated with regards to repeat contestants. Tom
