2nd Annual All Movies Tournament (AMT2) at UC Berkeley. "Everything you always wanted to know about the movies, but were afraid to ask, answered in tossup format." A part of the "I Know Kung Fu" extravaganza. Brought to you by Ray Luo and Eok Ngo. Description. AMT2 is a singles tourney devoted entirely to nontechnical films, covering a wide selection of genres and periods of cinema. See last year's question set (AMT1) at the Stanford archive for a taste of what it will be like (note, in particular, question 51), although this year's set will be more diversified (i.e. more general topic film questions as opposed to specific films): http://quizbowl.stanford.edu/archive/basquemovies03/index.html Eligibility. Everyone is welcome to play. Logistics. AMT2 takes place at UC Berkeley on Saturday, May 22nd, the same day as Seth's "I Know Kung Fu" late spring tourney, most likely immediately after. You will find it most rewarding to make the trip to Berkeley for both tournaments. Submissions. Participants are required to submit two tossup questions on two film-related topics. The following topics are recommended but not essential: a recent (post 1990) film, an actor or actress or director currently working in the movies, or a general knowledge film question. (They are recommended because those are the types of questions I usually neglect to write.) I must receive the questions by email to <recfreq att yahoo dott com> by the following deadlines in 2004: April 24th - You will be officially inducted into the early bird hall of fame. May 1st - You will receive preferential treatment in seating arrangements. May 8th - I will frown upon you every time you answer a question. May 15th - Pay each member of the NAQT DI national championship team one dollar. The last possible opportunity to send me questions will be whenever I last check email before May 22nd. You will not be guaranteed a buzzer if you failed to send me questions. Fees. This year's tourney is absolutely free. I will not accept donations. If you want a copy of the questions, please email me, and I may charge you your choice of 5 dollars or a question set of equivalent value. Structure. We will have three 40-question seeding rounds followed by a 20-question final between the two highest scoring individuals. If we have two rooms, then the top scoring half of players in each room will move up to the upper division while the lower half in each room will move down to the lower division after each round. Scores reset to 0 before each round. The top two scoring players in the 3rd seeding round in the upper division advance to the finals. The questions you write will only be used in the first two rounds and you will not be allowed to buzz in on your own questions, but since everyone who plays submits two questions, this arrangement is fair. AMT2 structure is subject to reasonable change without notice. Prizes. I've got plenty of nothin'. Let me know if you wish to sponsor a prize, even if it is something you wish to get rid of; we would very much appreciate it. Contact. Please email Ray if you have any questions and/or suggestions, at <recfreq att yahoo dott com>.
