The Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence proudly announces that Paul Cain is the recipient of the 2004 Benjamin Cooper Academic Ambassador Award. Mr. Cain, the coach for the Ysleta High School academic team (El Paso, Texas), has been a tireless advocate of quiz bowl/Hi-Q competition in western Texas during his over two-decade-long teaching career in the area. At the 2004 NSC, he will be recognized for his efforts to promote academic competition. PACE wishes to congratulate Mr. Cain for winning this award. He joins a prestigious list of recipients, selected for their service to the growth of high school academic competition. A list of the past recipients can be found on the PACE NSC web site at http://www.cwru.edu/orgs/trivia/pace/cooper.html . --- In addition, this year the Benjamin Cooper Award Committee will inaugurate a "Young Ambassador" award to recognize an individual (active in or formerly active in the high school or college academic competition circuit as a student) who has made an impact beneficial to the high school circuit. The selection of the recipient was made by a vote among a jury consisting of former Cooper Academic Ambassador recipients. The members of the Benjamin Cooper Award committee (Dr. Chuck and Ms. Southard) presented a slate of nominees, but they were neither eligible for the award nor otherwise involved in the final decision. This year the Young Ambassador jury has selected two recipients in recognition for their contributions to the high school academic competition circuit: David Bykowski and Matt Weiner. PACE wishes to congratulate Mr. Bykowski and Mr. Weiner for winning this award, which will be presented at the 2004 NSC. The other persons nominated for consideration were Craig Barker, Stan Jabrewski, and Dwight Kidder, who remain eligible for consideration for this award in future years.
