I would like to encourage folks who spoke up a few months ago, specifically about the difficulty of Regionals, but also about question writing in general to look through the packets (preferably side by side with the originals). After looking through them again myself I'd have to say that the editing down for Nationals was much more pronounced, prompted in large part by the community's discussion in February, and that I hope folks find this to be a helpful move. As you read, please note that although some changes were more subtle (ie. reordering clues, adding a lead in, making a clue more substantive) many were not (ie. eliminating the whole question or completely rewriting it), which means that although the answers may correspond, from original to final, the experience of the question for those playing on them would have been markedly different-- actually if I may elaborate a bit on this: I have found that one of the best ways to improve question writing, particularly in terms of coherence, is to read it aloud to yourself as if you were moderating a game, and while this does not guarantee perfection it definitely helps to get rid of convoluted language. Again, if you have any questions or comments feel free to post them in the forum at > http://www.collegequizbowl.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=52 or, if you feel more comfortable talking to me personally, email me at eberdich at umich dot edu. thanks, Ezequiel Berdichevsky Head Editor, ACF Regionals and Nationals 2004
