Anyway. The original intent of this thread was to point out that a member of the quiz bowl community (i.e., a high school quiz-show host in Michigan) was on Jeopardy!, going against another QB'er (and an NAQT writer/editor). If that kind of thing is now officially off topic, then I guess I have to apologize for dragging that sort of stuff in here. It -used- to be on-topic, but then again, I haven't read the message boards regularly since about 2002 or so. > > ...90% of college bowl teams would average less than 50 ppg on a > > typical ACF packet... > This is an utterly unsubstantiated lie (c.f. the scores from ACF > Fall.) Every ACF comment made has been either meant sarcastically and/or as a joke. It was at NO point to be taken seriously, as a serious argument against ACF. Apparently, I didn't do a good job of pointing this out. I am feeling very stupid right now. It's bad enough that I'm about the biggest underachiever of anybody that I've ever met in my life, but there is nothing more instantaneosly humiliating than this-- trying to inject a bit of levity onto a quiz bowl message board, and having it turn out as it has. If you want to see the tournament that I participated in in the last few years, here is the link: http://www.umich.edu/%7Euac/mac/results/maddipoti.html I basically got my derriere handed to me, generally wasting the time of most of the more experienced competitors participating; what's worse, I wrote a rather sub-standard packet, which basically ended up wasting everybody's time even more. While I can't say that I'm demoralized by this, the cold hard reality sank in that I would never, ever have enough time in my life to catch up to speed and play at the level that I would want to be at, so as to make participating in a qb tournament worthwhile, and not just a complete mockery of everybody's time and energy. On another note: I've always thought it would be fun to have a combination quiz-bowl/camping excursion, in which the competitors stake out a piece of woods some weekend, and then put up a bunch of tarps and such and play a tournament outside. I know that's kind of a silly dream, but it -was- my quiz bowl dream.
