The University of Virginia Quizbowl Team and Quizbowl at VCU announce Unity Bowl 2004: Jumping Is Useless, an academic event to be held Saturday, November 20 on the campus of the University of Virginia in sunny Charlottesville. This tournament is open to all teams composed of players attending the same school. Difficulty-wise, it should be entirely appropriate for teams or players who are new to academic quizbowl while still being worthwhile for experienced teams. This will be a packet-submission tournament, although new teams will only be required to write a small amount and will receive as much assistance as is necessary from me. The desired difficulty level is that of ACF Fall. A good place to start getting a handle on what your packet should look like is the questions from official ACF Fall events, which are available at http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~paik/acf/02fall.zip and http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~paik/acf/01fall.zip . This is exactly the style and roughly the difficulty that we are looking for. Packet requirements and pricing structures may be found at the following locations, based on your team's level of experience. These apply based on each individual team, not to the entire complement sent by a school; e.g., if your A team falls under "experienced," your B team can still be "new" if all its players meet the requirements. If no one on your team played in a non-CBI, non-trash tournament before summer 2004, use the guidelines for "new" teams at: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/unitynew.html . If no one on your team played in a non-CBI, non-trash tournament before summer 2003, but at least one player did participate in a tournament before summer 2004, use the guidelines for "novice" teams at: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/unitynov.html . If anyone on your team played in a non-CBI, non-trash tournament before summer 2003, use the guidelines for "experienced" teams at: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/unityexp.html . To register, submit a packet, or ask a question about the packet requirements, mail me at mattweiner_at_... . Questions about getting to and lodging in Charlottesville should be directed to SR Sidarth at srs9t_at_... .
