The major changes to this announcement since the last time it was posted: * NAQT is not providing breakfast on Saturday morning * Flight discount information is included * Cost information is included; you must pay in advance! * Standby information is included Date: April 7-8, 2000 Location: Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts Schedule: Friday: 17:00 - 18:30 Registration 18:30 - 18:55 Player Meeting 19:00 - 22:30 Rounds 1-6 Saturday: 9:00 - 12:00 Rounds 7-11 12:00 - 13:00 Lunch 13:00 - 15:30 Rounds 12-15 15:30 - 15:45 Break 15:45 - 16:30 Finals 16:30 - 17:00 Awards Field: 42 Division I teams, 24 Division II teams Format: Division I play will consist of a series of six games against teams from different regions and of varying skill levels followed by five rounds of power-matched play against teams of similar ability. The playoffs will consist of four rounds of ladder play, after which the first- and second-place teams will advance to a best-of-three series with the top team being given a one-game advantage. The Division II tournament will be a split-pool round robin followed by playoffs consisting of four rounds of ladder play. The finals will be a best-of-three series in which the top seed is given a one-game advantage. Power matching will be done on the basis of the sum of a team's opponents' winning percentages minus the team's own losses. Cost: The base registration fee is $120 per team (Division I or Division II). There is a $20 discount for each experienced moderator. There is an additional $10 discount per fully functional buzzer system provided. International teams should contact Kevin Olmstead (kevin_at_...) to discuss payment issues. As was the case in prior years, entry fees are to be paid *prior* to the tournament. Unless other arrangements are made with Kevin Olmstead, fees paid after Friday, March 24, 2000 will be subject to a $20 penalty; fees paid after April 6, 2000--including those paid at the tournament--will be subject to a $40 penalty. Teams cancelling their accepted bids after Friday, March 17, 2000 will be still be liable for $60 of their entrance fee. Prizes: The top three teams in Division I (Open), Division I (Undergraduate), and Division II will each receive team trophies and their members will receive individual awards. In addition, the top scorers in Division I (combined) and Division II will be declared tournament All-Stars and given individual awards.
