Yes, it's that time of the year again, when a few souls longing for some
semblance of quiz bowl converge on the lovely campus of the University of
Michigan-Ann Arbor for the annual Keller Cup. This year's tournament will be
held on campus on Sunday, May 29, 2005 with details (place, time) to be
announced later. 

NOTE: The tournament will only be held if their is sufficient interest to
make it worthwhile to those attending from out of state. My magic number for
that is about 10 people playing. 

Tournament Director: 
I guess it's me, Craig Barker (who may or may not be playing depending on

Format: 
Full round robin with everyone playing everyone else 1 on 1, followed by a
playoffs to be determined, based on the number of people playing. Rounds
will be played with full tossups and bonuses, 8-minute halves (NAQT clock),
and 3 tossup tiebreaks if needed. 

Packets: 
Each person participating writes and brings their own packet which should
consist of 30 tossups and 30 bonuses in order to account for duplicates.
Guerilla editing is the name of the game.

Though not noted in either document, players will be expected to keep their
packets in a reasonable standard of good taste and should include no
meta-quiz bowl references in them. 

Bring enough copies of your packet to accommodate every room (generally 8 in
total). 

Difficulty should correspond to that of NAQT sectionals, perhaps slightly
easier (do remember that this is individuals playing) 

Field: 
We will tentatively cap the field at 18 people, but if there's more interest
we may be able to get additional rooms. Reserving a spot in the field can be
done by e-mailing Craig Barker at (cdbarker at umich dot edu). First come,
first serve. 

Playoff Packets: 
We will need a certain amount of playoff packets and will be grateful to
anyone who could provide one. Trades for packets we have can be arranged.
Again, e-mail Craig Barker. 

Staffing: 
This tournament needs any staff person we can get, so if you are interested
in hanging out with a good group of people and earning the eternal thank of
Michigan Academic Competitions (or rather a subset thereof), we would love
to have you. If you need housing, we may be able to arrange that as well. 

Cost: 
There is no cost for entering the tournament other than providing copies of
your own packets. If you bring a buzzer, we'll give you 25% off your bill. 

Buzzers: 
Michigan has access to several buzzer systems, but any others that can be
brought would be extremely helpful. If you bring a buzzer, we'll give you
25% off your bill.
