Here is an TRASH/ACF Update. There was a misunderstanding between James Dinan and me over the wording of my ACF Fall announcement. Because of this he felt the need to clarify his position with his own post. I have personally spoken with Mr. Dinan, and here is the plan that TRASH and ACF have agreed to follow: Teams will not be forced to bid for both tournaments. Single- tournament bids will be accepted for both TRASH regionals and ACF Fall. However, any team that submits a viable bid for BOTH tournaments in the way specified in my previous post will be automatically considered over any team that submits a single tournament bid. For example, if UT-Austin submitted a bid for TRASH but not ACF in the Southwest, but Texas A&M submitted a bid for both, A&M would automatically be considered over UT as long as they could prove they have the experience and resources necessary to run the two tournaments. Another acceptable scenario would be to have two schools in the same metro area host the tournaments on the same weekend (naturally one on Saturday and one on Sunday). The two schools would submit one bid for both tournaments explaining the situation, and it would be considered as if they were working as one host. There is an exception to this rule, and that is the upper midwest. In the upper midwest, ACF Fall will be run on its own on the weekend of November 11-13. Then, WUSTL will host their Gateway Invitational Tournament along with TRASH regionals the following weekend (note: GIT not affiliated with TRASH or ACF, details to come later from WUSTL). Upper Midwest bids will be accepted only for ACF Fall. The juxtaposition of TRASH regionals and ACF Fall brings together two entities that have traditionally attracted different clienteles in order to achieve what should be our primary goal as tournament administrators: the furthering of quizbowl. This is a trial agreement between two organizations to work together to provide a weekend of enjoyable quizbowl action, and we hope that all of you will join us in our effort. Any school wishing to bid for ACF Fall, TRASH Regionals or both should email BOTH me at ekwartler at gmail dot com AND James Dinan at jdinan_at_... to avoid any confusion. Let me and/or James know if you have any questions. Thanks, -Eric Kwartler Tournament Coordinator, ACF Fall 2005
