Hello all, This is an update for the status of BASQUE, Berkeley's Chicago Open mirror to be held on July 2. Sorry for the lateness. At the moment, there are about 4 teams' worth of players interested in both Chicago Open and TRASH, with about that many, or maybe a couple more, in Science Monstrosity. The current roster is listed on the web page at http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~quizbowl/tournaments/BASQUE2005/BASQUE2005.html If you are not listed on this webpage and want to come, let me know, and similarly if you have changed your mind and don't want to come. The current plan is to miniaturize the events as follows: Mini-Chicago Open: 4 teams, 7 rounds (double round robin + "playoffs") Mini-TRASH: ditto Science Monstrosity: either 4 teams, 6 rounds or 6 teams, 5 rounds Fine arts/classical music: currently not happening I think that this format will allow us to have a brisk day of enjoyable quizbowl without it descending into too much tedium. Also, to reflect the reduced length, fees will be $5/person/event, except for SM, which is still free. So, please let me know: 1) If this plan is palatable to you, let me know and we can still have a tournament! 2) If this plan is not palatable to you, let me know too and we may have to cancel the tournament. 3) Anything else you might want to say. Thanks, Paul
