On Friday, July 1, the eve of Chicago Open 2005, the Jacopo Pontormo Tournament of Manners, a fine arts singles tournament, was held in Cobb Hall. Chris Romero defeated Wesley Matthews 70-65 in an exciting finals game to capture the championship. Chris went undefeated in the playoffs, and the finals was a rematch of a first round game between the two. Seth Teitler was the other finalist behind Wesley in the consolation bracket, and Matt Lafer was the other championship semifinalist, making them 3rd and 4th respectively. Full playoff results can be seen at http://www.princeton.edu/~cfrankel/pontormo_playoffs.xls. Some rounds have scoresheets missing, and I'd be happy to fill in any gaps should any player or moderator who remembers the score of a missing round be able to send it to me. A few other notes for the bracket: -Selene Koo was actually seeded 4th, but had to leave right after the prelims. Thus, everyone below her was moved up a seed. -Both Nathan Freeburg and Kelly Tourdot had to leave early in the playoffs, which is why some of their matches are marked as forfeits. That said, thanks to everyone who came out on Friday night and participated in what I thought I was a fun tournament to watch. The competition was excellent, and I was impressed with the level of play from everyone, even when the questions grew increasingly difficult as the playoffs progressed. Additional thanks to Dan Benediktson, Jamie Delmolino, J.R. Fennell, Brad Klein, Kevin Olmstead, and Dave Rapaport for staffing. For those of you who participated, packets will be sent out in the next few days, hopefully after I get a chance to make some last minute typo corrections. For anyone else interested in the set, you can purchase it for $15 (e-mail me at cfrankel (at) princeton.edu). As always, I'd be glad to hear feedback and commentary from anyone who participated, so just let me know.
