It was, needless to say, inappropriate to comment on how well a tournament was going while it was going on. For whatever reason, the nerves of alot of people were very short by that point, myself included. I've heard that one of the reasons it went long was that Charlie was attempting to train his team members to run a tournament, as he, as we all know, spends an amazing amount of time running tournaments, and the last thing his people needed was me criticizing them in a public fashion (inasmuch as anyone reads this board anymore). So the first post was clearly wrong, and I apologize to anyone I may have insulted by it. That being said, UTC tournaments are notorious in the southern circuit for going really late, and I, nor other people I've spoken with about this over the years, can ever really figure out why. At Florida the past few years we have regularly run a 24-30 team ACF- style college tournament that gets in 12-15 rounds in 8-9 hours, including lunch. That knowledge, as a past tournament director, led to the outburst. If I'd have known that the youngins' were learning on the job we would have been more patient. Other than the time delays, though, everything went well in both tournaments. The readers were good, the questions good, and the prizes interesting. The only reason we are so used to UTC tournaments is that they host so many, which we are all thankful for. If anyone wants to comment or attack me on this I can be reached at kactigger_at_...:)
