The Basics Grinnell is pleased to announce that we will be hosting GUT III: Bovine Justice on October 1 in lovely Grinnell, IA. (Grinnell, for those of you unfamiliar with the location, is midway between Iowa City and Des Moines on I-80). This tournament will follow NAQT rules, a list of which are available at http://www.naqt.com/. (The exception to this is that rounds will be untimed). Each team attending will be guaranteed at least 9 rounds, with more possible in playoff rounds. This tournament is CUT-style, which means that teams of experienced players are capped at 2 players apiece and highly experienced players play solo. If you are unfamiliar with the format, also used Carleton's CUT and DePauw's DUNCE, look at the official eligibility rules, <http://www.naqt.com/hosting/cut-style.html>. Schedule 8:30 am — Registration 9:00 am — Tournament play begins Around noon — Lunch break 3:00 pm — End of rounds 6:00 pm — End of playoffs The times above for lunch, end of round-robin play, and end of tournament play are all dependent on how quickly the tournament plays out. We'll try to stick to them, but the pace of a tournament is hard to gauge ahead of time. The Money $50 per first team -$10 per moderator -$5 per working buzzer system Minimum Fee: $30/team The Place The tournament will be held in Alumni Recitation Hall, on the Grinnell campus. Complete directions will be available from I-80. The Rest We are tentatively limiting registration to 32 teams, but this number is flexible. To register, send an email to quizbowl (at) grinnell.edu including the number of teams and a contact person for your team. After the tournament, complete team and individual statistics will be posted. The tournament website will be http://www.cs.grin.edu/~lyonavra/quizbowl/gut2005-2/ and it will be live in the next few days. I will maintain a list of registered teams as I get them.
