PACKET DISTRIBUTION: 26/26 to be comprised of at least 5/5 of Music, Movies, TV, Sports and Other as well as an additional 1/1 to be selected from the above categories with no repeats (ie, 5/6 sports and 6/5 tv is acceptable, but not 6/6 tv or 6/6 sports) CATEGORIES: Music: Vary questions across genre, albums vs songs, artists vs. work, time period, etc. Please shy away from music labels or given lyrics name the song type questions. Movies: Once again vary formats, time period, genre, actor vs. role, directors, etc. Please do not write more than 1 question on foreign movies and be sure it is something accessible (ie. Rashomon is acceptable, a German remake of "The Sandlot" is not) TV: Vary by format, genre, cable vs. network, actor, time period. Once again, keep it accessible. Do not write about a show that aired for 3 episodes more than a decade ago. Sports: Vary across major sports with more focus on NBA, NFL, MLB, college football, and college basketball. Do not write more than one question on hockey, olympics, nascar, women's sports, minor league sports, etc. Please vary across time periods, athletes vs team and year, coaches, etc. Other: At least 1/1 and no more than 2/2 on computer, internet, and video games. At least 1 question on food/cooking/booze/etc should be written. No more than 1/1 comic strips (including online), anime, comic books, etc. Feel free to write a question on trashy lit, but know it stands a good chance of being cut. Other parts here include trashy current events, non-computer gaming, weird facts, urban legends, etc. QUESTION WRITING PHILOSOPHY: The emphasis should be on the recent and/or MEMORABLE. Do not write about an old TV show unless it is still accessible today (like on Nick at Nite, recently on DVD, etc). The same guidelines hold across all categories--memorable is the operative word. It is possible to have a tournament that is accessible to all age levels. The formats are fairly loose, but follow the principle of "build evenly". Don't submit 5 sports tossups all on famous coaches or 5 TV tossups on shows that fox cancelled for being too awesome. Once again, focus on the recent and memorable. Please shoot for 90% tossup conversion when read completely and an average of 17 pts on bonuses (ie, more 30s than 0s); the questions should be difficult, yet accessible at all levels. FORMAT: All power marks will be added during edited, you don't need to put them in before. No bonus should have more than 4 prompts. No more than 1 visual bonus. Please vary bonus formats, 40-30-20-10-1, 15-5 are good, do NOT submit all 10-10-10. Do not use tab settings, please use 10pt. Times New Roman, submit in .rtf or .doc format, all answers should be prefaced with "answer:" and follwed by the answer with the salient parts underlined, and label all bonus parts with [X] where X is the point value. PACKET SUBMISSION: Please send packets as well as all packet-related questions to Eric Steinhauser at the address e_steinhauser 'at' yahoo dot com. Thank you. TO REGISTER: Email me, Zach Pozun at [removed] as soon as possible, especially if you are a free agent.
