As you probably know, UT-Chattanooga is hosting a weekend of lip- smacking quizbowl fun in late April. We'll host a collegiate academic tournament, the Moon Pie Classic, on Sat. 4/28/07, washed down with an open trash tournament on Sun. 4/29, the RC Cola Classic. Field updates for both events are below, but we have two changes to announce: MOON PIE CLASSIC (academic) Field so far: 15-16 teams (7 Div. I, 8-9 Div. II) The base fee is hereby officially dropped from $100 to $70, with all packet incentives/penalties still in force. This is what we had in mind all along, but we waited till after the on-time packet deadline passed. We wanted to see if the spectre of higher fees provided incentive for more teams to submit questions on time. Apparently it didn't. Two teams got us questions before the discount deadline and thus will play for just $50 each, while the two that got their rounds in by the regular deadline will play for $70 each. There's still time to submit a round (or a half round, for qualifying teams) by the announced late deadline of 4/15, with a $20 penalty. We will also accept packets (full packets only) between 4/15 and 4/20 with a $40 penalty, *but only if you let us know by 4/15* so we know what to expect. Otherwise the +$60 no-packet penalty applies, meaning slacker teams may play for a total fee of $130. RC COLA CLASSIC (trash) Field so far: 16-18 teams (7 upper division, 5-6 novice division, 4-5 division TBA) We have enough novice teams signed up to determine that we will definitely split the field into two divisions based on trash experience. This includes 3-4 high school teams so far. (An aside to those still working on packets: Since we'll have minors present, please try to keep the packets at least at a PG-13 level.) One more note: If you are planning to attend both tournaments but only feel like you have time to write one packet, we'd prefer that it be the trash packet; right now we have more freelance packets for Moon Pie than we do for RC Cola.
